Description ZurichLeague

The ZurichLeague is the first self-controlled, digitally supported tennis tournament for non-licensed players in Switzerland.

The game is played in 2 leagues, an A and a B league. The aim is to win your league and/or be promoted to the higher league or not be relegated. The leagues in turn are divided into groups of 5 in which the round robin principle is used, i.e. you play at least 4 matches.

The ZurichLeague is divided into a qualifying tournament and a knockout phase (main tournament). The qualifying tournament begins on Monday, August 26, and lasts until September 29. The groups will be drawn at random. One or two players per group will qualify for the knockout round. This will start at the beginning of October. The final matches will take place on Saturday, October 12.

What's new?

  • Switzerland's first self-directed, digitally supported tennis tournament for non-licensed players
  • min. 4 matches in the qualification
  • Flexible, individual appointment booking directly via the TennisMatch app
  • better planning of matches (match duration 60 min. max)
  • League system with mixed groups of 5

How it works

The players organize their own matches within the group. As the host, you are responsible for 2 of your 4 matches. This means that you make the court reservation after you have agreed the time and place with your opponent (guest) in the chat. As the host, you also pay the court rent on site (CHF 15.- during the day during the week, CHF 25.- in the evening and at weekends). In return, you will be invited to your 2 other matches via the TennisMatch app and the official will inform you which 2 matches are to be organized by when. Appointments must be made and results recorded via the TennisMatch app. You communicate with your guest via the TennisMatch app (chat function) or via email. There is an app for Apple and one for Android.

Game mode/Tiebreak

The game mode for the qualification and the main tournament is as follows:

  • the game is played on 8 games - "no-ad". At 7/7 there is a tiebreak to 7
  • The duration of the match is exactly 1 hour (incl. 5 minutes warm-up time); each match ends on the hour.
  • Each game won gives one point; a win gives 2 bonus points.
  • In all other respects, the Swiss Tennis Tournament Regulations apply.

Classification of the leagues according to self-assessment

In order to be able to organize the leagues, we need a self-assessment of your playing strength. The following levels are available for selection during registration:

  • Beginner 1
  • Beginner 2 (more than 1 year)
  • Advanced
  • Expert
  • Professional

Beginner 2 to Expert are admitted to the ZurichLeague. For (formerly) licensed players, the Swiss Tennis Rankings are also available for self-assessment. You can find more information on this below.
