The ZurichLeague Winter Edition (description)

The ZurichLeague Winter Edition is the first self-directed, digitally supported tennis tournament for licensed and non-licensed players in the region

Key points

  • The tournament is divided into 2 regions: Zurich City and Pfannenstiel Region
  • min. 4 matches in the qualification - 2 matches in the main tournament
  • Flexible, individual appointments via the TennisMatch app
  • 2 mixed leagues (A + B league) with groups of 5
  • The number of participants is limited to 50 per league.

Advantages of the tournament

  • Four exciting matches in the qualifiers and more matches in the finals
  • Individual and flexible appointment scheduling via the app
  • easy to plan, as matches are short (match duration limited to 60 minutes)
  • discounted space rental at selected locations and for limited periods (see here)

Prerequisite for participation

You are eligible to participate if you

  • have more than a "Beginner 1" level of play (e.g. groundstrokes, service, volleys etc.)
  • have the necessary regulatory knowledge
  • are readily available in December/January and
  • are at least 20 years old.

Prices

  • The league finalists will receive a dream pillow from Seven Sundays worth CHF 179.- The winner will receive a voucher for 1 hour of tennis from Vitis Sportcenter
  • In addition, the 3rd and 4th placed teams in each league will receive vouchers from Beliani worth CHF 50.

How it works

There are 2 leagues per region, an A and a B league. The aim is to win your league and/or be promoted to the higher league or not be relegated. The leagues in turn are divided into groups of 5, in which the round robin principle is used, i.e. you play at least 4 matches.

The ZurichLeague is divided into a qualifying tournament and a knockout phase (main tournament). The best 8 players per league qualify for the knockout round.

The players organize their matches within the group themselves. As the host, you are responsible for 2 matches, i.e. you make the court reservation after you have agreed the time and place with your opponent (guest) in the chat. You will then be invited to your 2 other matches. Via the TennisMatch app you will receive information from the official as to which 2 matches are to be organized by when. Appointments must be made and results recorded via the TennisMatch app. You communicate with your guest via the TennisMatch app (chat function) or via email. There is an app for iOS and one for Android.

Game mode/ tiebreak

The mode for the qualification and the main tournament is as follows:

  • The game is played on 8 games - "no-ad". At 7/7 there is a tiebreak to 7.
  • The match duration is exactly 1 hour (incl. 5 minutes warm-up time); each match ends on the hour.
  • Each game won gives one point; a win gives 2 bonus points.
  • In all other respects, the Swiss Tennis Tournament Regulations apply.
